Offset House

Capturing the south-facing views of the Champlain Basin, from the side of Mt. Philo, guided the design of this modern one-story house in Charlotte. The house spreads out over an east-west axis, which coupled with the large expense of south-facing glazing allows for the home’s primary spaces to capture the views. A great room with vaulted ceilings bestows on the house a sense of volume that punches above its 2,500 sq. ft. floor area. Custom cabinets by Stark Mountain and stone tops by Burlington Marble lend an elegance to the kitchen and dining spaces. The primary bath and bedroom as well as the yoga room all have sweeping views of the Champlain Valley, as does an outdoor shower nestled on the end of the house. Two guest bedrooms with a shared bath are tucked away on the north side of the house. A roof-mounted solar system further takes advantage of the open skies to the south and assures that structure’s energy impact is minimal.
